Forty-Fourth President

By this time everyone now knows Barack Obama has done something truly outstanding, by becoming
the first African American President of The United States of America. People who know
me know that I believe that the skin color factor shouldn't be the main reason why anyone supported
Barack Obama. When it was announced that Barack won the election I was only really
excited when I actually realized that figures like Jesse Jackson, Harry Belafonte, Joseph Lowery, and Julian Bond to name a few still lived to see this day happen.

Despite the fact Jesse Jackson and Barack
had their little issue it's great to see that people like the ones I just named were the same people who assisted
Martin Luther King. These were all people who were there to witness and live through the stoning,
hosing, discrimination, killing, abuse and put up the good fight for what we may take for granted today. As I think more about this I wish Rosa Parks would of saw at least 4 more years to see what has
occurred.

To really commemorate this occasion I believe we need to open our eyes and realize instead of boasting
about the victory, and thinking things can change dramatically in one short term we must
work harder to better ourselves. I've heard people say they feel like everything our greatest figures have
worked to accomplish has paid off, but Barack being president doesn't mean it's
over. We should stop the ignorance saying things like a black man in the White House or painting the White House black, and instead use Barack's victory as motivation, enlightenment and a sign of power to
help us strive for much more as a people.
