DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince were the first ever Hip Hop/Rap group to win a grammy,
with their song Parents Just Don't Understand which sold over 2.5 million copies.
Mc Lyte was the first hardcore female artist to sign to a major label, and released her
debut album Lyte as a Rock which gained critical acclaim.
N.W.A opened the door for West Coast artists by gaining national attention with Straight Outta Compton
& F*ck Da Police. The F.B.I even issued warnings to the group & their
record label making most of the N.W.A's popularity come from media coverage.
